個人簡介
I am applying at your consulting firm with hopes of teaching English in Taiwan starting in August or September of 2006. I have been interested in living in Taiwan for quite some time now and am finally able to really move forward with that idea! I have a profound interest in learning Chinese and about Taiwan¡¦s history and culture. I feel that teaching English in Taiwan is the best way to live and work in the country and immerse myself in the culture without having much prior knowledge of the language. The other very important reason that I would love to teach English in Taiwan is because I am thinking about becoming a teacher in my future career. I graduated with a degree in Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology and plan to go into environmental education when I return to school for my graduate studies, ultimately teaching a variety of age groups. I really enjoy interacting with people of any age, and my enthusiastic interest to get to know my students will be especially beneficial for them and their learning experience. Teaching English would be a wonderful opportunity for me to learn more about what it is like to be in the classroom setting, interacting with students and finding the best way to teach in a clear, accessible and interesting way. I feel that the experiences I have had trying to learn three other languages (German, Spanish, Chinese) will be useful for teaching English because I will be able to relate to the frustrations and hardships that often go along with learning a foreign language. For example, I understand how it feels when things are moving too fast or when classroom activities are not particularly effective. I have also had experience working at a daycare, teaching preschool-age children. This experience showed me how to manage a classroom, remain patient and be creative about solving problems, which are skills applicable to any age group. Furthermore, I am an ESL classroom tutor for the Minnesota Internship Center Charter School, which is a high school for refugee and immigrant students who come to the U.S. with little or no knowledge of English. Through this opportunity I have really gained insight into the challenges of teaching English and how to make concepts as clear and graspable as possible for my students. Finally, I feel that I will fit in well with the teaching environment and with living in Taiwan in general. I am a hard worker, patient and really try to be observant of what is going on around me. I understand that this experience will definitely involve being stressed, uncomfortable and lost at times, but I am a rather flexible person who really enjoys and appreciates being challenged. Besides being the perfect way to learn Chinese, learn about the culture and gain experience teaching, I feel that teaching English in Taiwan will be just an incredible experience. Traveling and seeing more and more of this very extensive world is my favorite thing to do, and Taiwan is on the top of my list of places I want to go to! I look forward to hearing from you and speaking more about my possibilities.
